Fire Ceremony

Sharing about this powerful experience of fire in ceremony that I recently experienced in Koyasan ~ Japan

The Goma Ritual of consecrated fire is unique to Vajrayana and Esoteric Buddhism and is perhaps also the most mystical and cognitively powerful. It stems from the Vedic Agnihotra Ritual and is performed by qualified priests~monks and acharyas for the benefit of individuals, the state or all sentient beings in general. The consecrated fire has a powerful cleansing effect spiritually and psychologically. The ritual is performed for the purpose of destroying negative energies, detrimental thoughts and desires, and for the making of requests and blessings. Soegomagi is a strip of wood to write down your wishes and name on. A priest burns it in front of you during the fire ritual.

Ceremonies often include the constant beating of taiko drums and mass chanting of the mantra of Acalanatha by priests and lay practitioners. The combination of the ritual's visuals and sounds can be trance inducing and make for a profound experience.

This 30 minute ceremony was powerful and liberating. I did feel the urge to get up and start shaking and dancing!! but remained contained in breath and meditation; to be present, focused, to let it all burn away.. with a little shaking, tears of release and some big heart revelations 🔥✨🫶
